The selector in a rule consists of two parts, the facility and the priority. The facility and priority is separated by a period and takes on the following format: facility.priority The facility part of a selector is a set of fixed sources of system information that can be recorded by syslogd. These are the daemons: lpr, mail, cron, mark, news, syslog, user, uucp and local. There are seven local facilities, and these are named as local0 up to local7.
